What Codes Apply?

Applicable codes for new construction include the Wisconsin Administrative Code, Ch. COMM 61-65 (commonly known as the Wisconsin Commercial Building Code), which adopts the International Codes as set forth in COMM 61.05 and the Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC) Ch. COMM 20-25, for one and two family dwellings. Public buildings and places of employment originally built before 1914 that have not been changed are subject to the Existing Buildings Code, Ch. COMM 160-164 . Public buildings and places of employment built between 1914 and July 2, 2002 are subject to the codes in effect at the time they were built. Also applicable are the Wisconsin Plumbing Code and the National Electrical Code.
