Update of Water Street Commercial District Plan
The Community Development Department of the City of Eau Claire, was asked by the Water Street Business Improvement District (BID) to assist in updating the Water Street Commercial District Plan which was originally prepared back in 1982. This plan provides a guide for the City and Water Street businesses on issues such as land use, zoning, parking, streets, parks, housing, and redevelopment.
Since the original plan is over twenty years old, the Water Street BID feels that it was important to update the plan in order to provide current direction for the area.
To assist in updating the plan, the City Plan Commission has appointed a 15-member committee to help identify issues and recommendations. The Committee started meeting in 2007 and spent approximately 18 months meeting with City departments and community organizations in order to obtain background information before updating the plan. The committee also conducted surveys of the community and Water Street businesses in order to obtain citizen input.
The updated plan was adopted by the City Council on January 13, 2009. A copy of the plan or a brief summary can be reviewed by selecting one of the options found below
